Revelation 3:11
Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.
We find today's devotional in the book of Revelation, chapter three. The Greek word for Revelation is Apokalupsis which means; a disclosure of truth, also instructions concerning things before hand. The revelation of Jesus Christ came to John from an angel of God. John then writes seven letters to the seven churches of Asia minor. In these letters John addresses specific situations pertaining to each church. Our verse is in the sixth letter sent out to the church of Philadelphia. John calls this church The Faithful Church. The church of Philadelphia is known for brotherly love and kindness and was highly praised for it. Not only was this church praised so highly but God also made a promise to her and that promise was that He would place her enemies at her feet and during times of trial He would preserve the church.
This crown is to be held on to as proof of our inheritance. Proof that we are daughters of The King. God has placed this crown on our head that we may walk in His power, authority, and knowledge. Now, we know a crown is a sign of royalty. The crown represents honor and blessings that awaits us believers in heaven. When I read this verse, a vision of a beautiful princess in some kind of mad rush, running out of a door with a night gown on, and hair flying every which way, with her crown in her hand, comes to mind. How many times do we in a mad rush forget to put on our crown? All the while Jesus is saying, "You can't forget the crown, or else how are people going to know who you are". Or, how many times do we give our crown over to the troubles of this life. Or even worse, we don't fell worthy enough to put it on. Hold fast ladies to your salvation for indeed our King is coming soon. Like the church of Philadelphia God is calling us to endure the trials ahead. God gives us hope in the knowledge of the second coming of Jesus Christ. Like this Faithful Church if we hold fast and overcome, God will honor and bless us.
