Romans 6:4
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
The book of Romans is a letter that Paul wrote from Corinth to the Philippian Church. Paul took this time to write to the faithful body of believers in Rome. According to Paul, these believers in Rome, were known all over the world. Paul wrote with great longing to see the Philippians, that he may minister to the church. That he may impart to them a spiritual gift. In chapter six, Paul explains to the Philippian church that, believers must die to sin, and live for God. In this letter he urges their Christian baptism and union with Christ. Paul goes into great detail explaining that, they are made alive to God, and are freed from the dominion of sin. Finally Paul leaves them with is thought; The end of sin is death, and of holiness everlasting life.
Who can forget the details of their baptism? The day, the place, the person(s) who baptized you, and all those who celebrated with you. I know believers who use their baptism date as their birthday! As of last week, that would make me sixteen years old! It's funny to tease however, we were truly buried with Jesus through our baptism into death of our old self. Just as Jesus was raised from the death of sin by the glory of the father, so were we! This newness of life is a change of the heart. How do we change our hearts? By walking in scripture, by choosing a new path for our lives, and by choosing new companions to walk with. We change our hearts by acknowledging God in all of our ways. Lastly, by yielding ourselves to God as we yield ourselves to our husbands.
